Send notes to Slack
Post a note to a Slack channel through a link you make in your own Slack workspace.
On this page
What you need. A Slack workspace where you can make a workflow that starts from a webhook, which needs a paid Slack plan, or an app with an incoming webhook.
What Send to Slack does
Send to Slack posts a note to the channel your Slack link names when you press it. The link posts to that one channel, and SaysHere reads nothing in Slack through it.
Each send posts the note as it is at that moment. Editing the note later leaves the message in Slack as it was sent.
Make a Slack link
Slack offers two kinds of link. Make the one your workspace allows.
Workflow webhook, on Slack's paid plans: in Slack, open Workflow Builder and make a workflow that starts From a webhook. Add one variable with the key text and the data type text. Add the step Send a message to a channel, choose the channel, and insert the text variable as the message. Publish the workflow and copy its web request URL, which starts with https://hooks.slack.com/triggers/.
Incoming webhook: open Your Apps on Slack's site, create an app with a name you choose, and pick your workspace. Open Incoming Webhooks and turn on Activate Incoming Webhooks. Press Add New Webhook to Workspace, pick the channel and press Authorize. Copy the webhook URL, which starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.
A workspace's owners and admins can limit who makes workflows and apps. If you don't see an option, ask one of them. Keep the link to yourself, since anyone who has it can post to that channel.
Save the link in SaysHere
Open Integrations and press Add a Slack link in the Slack row. Paste the link into Slack link and press Save link. The row says "Link saved." and shows the kind of link and its last four characters.
Press Send a test message to see where your notes will go. The channel gets the message "This is a test message from SaysHere. Notes you send from SaysHere will appear in this channel." To use another channel, make a new link and press Replace link.
Send a note
Open a note in Notes and press Send to Slack beside Done. The sheet shows the note's title and text as Slack will get them. Tick Everyone in that channel may see these notes. and press Send to Slack. The note then says "Sent to Slack."
When Slack refuses a message
The sheet stays open and says what Slack answered.
- "Slack says this link no longer works. Save a new one on the Integrations page." The webhook or the workflow was deleted or turned off, or its channel was archived. Make a new link and save it with Replace link.
- "Slack refused the message. The workspace may limit who can post in that channel." Make a link for another channel, or ask the workspace's admins.
- "Slack couldn't take this message. For a workflow link, check that its variable is named text."
- If Slack asks you to wait, try again after the time it names. Slack takes about one message a second through a link.
- "Your Slack link changed after this page opened, so nothing was sent. Reload the page and send again." You saved a new link in another tab, so the sheet named the old one.
Remove the link
Press Remove link in the Slack row, then Remove. SaysHere forgets the link. The link keeps working in Slack until you delete the webhook or the workflow there. Deleting your SaysHere account removes the link too.
What SaysHere keeps
SaysHere keeps your link encrypted, with its kind, its last four characters, the day you saved it and the day it last posted. When you press Send to Slack, your browser sends the text to SaysHere, which posts it to Slack and keeps no copy of it.
Slack keeps each message under your workspace's own rules. SaysHere can't delete a message once Slack has it.
