Search and ask your Gmail
Connect a Gmail mailbox to search its recent mail and ask questions about it. Only you see what is found.

What SaysHere reads
SaysHere reads eligible messages, their headers and labels. Attachments are listed by name, size and type; their contents are not downloaded. SaysHere cannot send, change or delete mail through this connection.
SaysHere asks Google for one permission, the Gmail read-only permission (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly), separately from signing in. The Connect Gmail page and the Gmail row on Integrations both show it.
The window and the cap
On the Connect Gmail page, Recent mail sets how many days back SaysHere reads, and Maximum threads sets how many threads it keeps. On Free you can choose 7 or 30 days and up to 50 threads, and on Plus and Pro 7, 30 or 90 days and up to 200 threads. Your plan and remaining source allowance set the maximum. Mail outside the selected window is excluded, including older messages in an otherwise eligible thread. SaysHere also leaves out mail that Gmail sorts into Promotions, Social, Updates or Forums.
Each scan checks a limited set of recent threads. The count shows what has been read and retained, rather than a complete count of your mailbox.
Once the first read finishes, the Gmail row on Integrations shows Limits. Change Window or Cap there and press Save limits. Lower limits remove the stored threads and answers outside them.
Connect Gmail
Open Integrations and press Connect Gmail in the Gmail row. The Connect Gmail page describes what the connection reads and keeps before you agree. Choose the window and the cap, tick the agreement and press Continue to Google. Google asks you to choose an account and to allow SaysHere to read your mail.
Back on Integrations, a notice says "Gmail is connected." The row reads "Reading eligible mail." with Committed threads, Examined threads and Cap until the first read finishes. It then reads "Connected." with Last successful sync, Retained threads and Window.
Search and ask
In the Gmail row, press Search and ask your mail. Type words into Search your mail and press Search. Each match shows its thread's title and the passage that matched. Type a question into Ask your mail and press Ask. An OpenAI model writes the Answer in two or three sentences from the passages that best match your question, and From these threads links the threads those passages came from. You have 50 questions a month on Free and 500 on Plus and Pro. Each question you ask uses one.
Search and Ask look in the mail SaysHere stores. While none is stored, the page says "No mail is stored to search right now. Search and Ask open here once a sync stores some of your recent mail." in place of the two boxes. Storing a thread counts its characters toward the month's Gmail indexing: 2,000,000 characters a month on Free, 10,000,000 on Plus and 13,000,000 on Pro. A thread stored again unchanged later in the month counts nothing more, and a reply counts only what it adds. A thread counts in full again when it is stored after you remove it from sources and reset exclusions, after you disconnect Gmail and connect it again, or after a month whose indexing was used skipped it while SaysHere held no copy of it. A thread that does not fit in what is left of the month is not stored. Once the month's indexing is used, the Gmail row says how much was used and the day storing starts again, and while nothing is stored the page says the same in place of the two boxes, with a link to your plans.
OpenAI receives sanitized text for search indexing and the words you search or ask with. When you ask a question, OpenAI receives the retrieved excerpts needed for the answer, their threads' titles and your question. Mail and answers derived from it are personal to your account. They are excluded from team, guest, shared, exported and outbound results. A mixed answer that uses mail stays personal in full.
A thread's page
Press a thread's title to open its page. At the top, Last successful sync says when SaysHere last read your mailbox, and Available until says when the stored copy expires. Each message shows its subject, the names of its sender and recipients with their email addresses removed, Message date, Labels and any attachment by name. The stored text follows, with the matching passage marked.
To remove the thread, press Remove from sources, then Remove this thread. This removes the stored thread and answers derived from it. It stays out until you reset exclusions; disconnecting Gmail, or reconnecting after Google's permission ends, clears exclusions too. The original mail in Gmail is unchanged.
To let SaysHere read the threads you removed again, press Reset exclusions in the Gmail row, then Reset. Threads you removed from sources can be read again at the next sync if they are still eligible.
Pause, resume and sync
Press Pause in the Gmail row to stop SaysHere from reading and using your mail, and Resume to start again. While it is paused, the row reads "Sync paused". Gmail is paused for synchronization, Search and Ask. Stored copies continue to expire. Resume checks the connection before mail becomes usable again.
Sync now starts a new read in the background, at most once a minute.
Turn off the Search and Ask switch to keep your mail out of Search and Ask. The Search and ask your mail link leaves the row until you turn the switch on again.
What SaysHere keeps, and for how long
SaysHere stores sanitized headers, labels, each attachment's name, size and type, and message text for up to 24 hours after an allowed read. A message can expire sooner because of Google's restrictions or your selected window. A longer selection window does not extend a stored copy's lifetime. To count each thread once toward the month's Gmail indexing, SaysHere keeps a record of each thread it stores, and of each thread it skips because the month's indexing is used, until the month ends in UTC. A stored thread's record holds the Gmail ids of the thread and its messages, their times and sizes, and fingerprints of their text, headers, labels and attachment details, and none of their words. A skipped thread's record holds its Gmail id, the characters the month had left and the time it was skipped. Removing the thread, Disconnect, loss of permission and account deletion each delete a record at once. SaysHere also keeps the address of the mailbox you connect, encrypted, until you disconnect Gmail or delete your account, so a reconnect can check that it reads the same mailbox.
Email addresses and detected credentials are removed from each message before storage and model processing. Sanitization can remove useful text and does not guarantee that every sensitive detail has been detected.
SaysHere does not use your mail or answers derived from it for advertising, sale, cross-user profiles or training general models. SaysHere's backups hold no Gmail data.
Disconnect Gmail
Press Disconnect in the Gmail row. When "Disconnect Gmail?" opens, press Disconnect again. Disconnect removes stored mail and answers derived from it, then attempts to remove this app's Google permission. Loss of permission and account deletion also remove these copies.
The row then says "Stored mail has been removed." Until Google confirms that the permission is gone, it also says that SaysHere is retrying. If Google does not confirm, open your Google Account's linked apps page and select Access to your Google Account. Then select SaysHere, See details, Remove access and Confirm. Back on Integrations, press I removed it in my Google Account.
Reconnecting checks the same mailbox. To connect a different mailbox, disconnect the current one first.
